ABOUT ANNE HEGARTY

Anne Hegarty, Aesthetic Nurse Specialist, is medical director of Cosmeticare. Anne has been involved in the field of aesthetic medicine for several years. She began her training in Paris. Since then she has had specialized training and a lot of experience in the different aesthetic treatments that she performs. She constantly attends courses and conferences to ensure she is kept up-to-date with the latest advances in aesthetic medicine.

COSMETICARE TREATMENTS

BOTOX

Facial lines are caused primarily by repeated use of facial muscles on the skin in a particular manner. With the passing of time these lines become deeper and permanent making us look older. Lines are more apparent in the upper third of the face in habitual frowners or exceptionally expressive individuals.

Botox is generally used to soften and often eliminate the lines in this area eg. Forehead, frown lines and crows feet.

The treatment is simple and involves placing a tiny amount of Botox to specific superficial muscles which relaxes them and softens the expression lines to leave the skin smooth, refreshed and young looking.

The treatment only takes a few minutes. A local anaesthetic cream may be applied to the skin prior to injection but is generally not required because discomfort is minimal.

Good results can be obtained from a single treatment and can last 3 months or more. Botox starts to work around 2-3 days after injection reaching its peak effect after 2 weeks. The results are dramatic. Botox is a safe cosmetic treatment with minimal risk and has been used in cosmetic practice for more than 15 years. Clients want a natural look and Botox can deliver the effect they expect and the quality assurance and safety profile they demand.

Immediately after treatment there may be mild swelling in the area which usually subsides within an hour. Slight bruising rarely occurs and makeup can be worn immediately if required.

Contraindications

If you are pregnant or breast feeding the treatment is not recommended.

EXCESSIVE SWEATING

When Botox is injected into the area it blocks the release of the acetylcholine and temporarily reduces or prevents sweat production.

Prior to the treatment a topical anaesthetic cream is placed on the skin and covered with plastic. It takes 20-30 minutes for the cream to numb the area. This topical anaesthetic is usually the only pain control necessary for the injections in the underarms. There is minimal discomfort and the treatment is very effective. The effects of the treatment generally lasts 3-6 months.

DERMAL FILLERS - RESTYLANE

Restylane is currently the most popular dermal filler as it is clinically proven to be safe. Since it’s launch in 1996 Restylane has been used safely in over 10 million treatments in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Restylane is a crystal clear gel form of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Some dermal fillers are derived from animal substances. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is non-animal. Hyaluronic acid holds water hydrating and giving volume to the skin. As we get older we produce less natural hyaluronic acid. A simple injection of Restylane replenishes the lost volume and improves your looks by enhancing your facial profile creating fuller lips, and smoothing out lines and wrinkles.

Restylane adds volume to your skin without affecting your natural expression. It is non-permanent and is absorbed naturally over time. There’s no need for any pre-testing and you will see the result instantly. The effect will typically last from 9 months to over a year. The length of time Restylane lasts is specific to each individual and the area treated. As the gel breaks down water takes its place. The less concentrated the gel becomes the more water it is able to bind. These facts are the main reasons that treatments with Restylane last so long. When totally absorbed the gel disappears unnoticed from the body.

Treatment Details

Treatments are painfree. During treatment the crystal clear gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel then gives natural volume and smoothes the wrinkles. The ability of Restylane products to integrate with adjacent tissues allows the free passage of vital nutritive elements like oxygen and hormones to pass between fragments of the gel. The result is a healthy looking skin.

RESTYLANE TOUCH

This is a light concentration of Restylane. It is used to smooth very fine lines eg. Crows feet, frown line, forehead lines.

RESTYLANE VITAL

RESTYLANE

This is a medium concentration of Restylane. It is used to smooth lines of medium depth eg. Nasolabial lines, smile lines, frown line, lips.

RESTYLANE LIPP

This is more concentrated than Restylane and has been specially designed for lip enhancement. It boosts the skins hydration system to lift and smooth away fine lines creating a natural fullness that’s soft to touch.

RESTYLANE VITAL FOR SKIN REJUVENATION

Restylane Vital is a unique aesthetic treatment that revitalizes skin through deep and long lasting dermal hydration to create a naturally fresh and youthful appearance.

• It is my most popular treatment and I continue to have excellent results with it.
• It is a natural beauty treatment that gently replenishes the skin's hyaluronic acid.
• It can basically plump up, and slightly lift the skin in a number of areas - the face, the neck, the décolletage and the hands.

Restylane Vital can also be used as a skin boosting treatment to counter the effects of cold winter air and central heating. It is also perfect for improving skin tone in the lower face where there is noticeable loss of elasticity.

The Result:

Restylane Vital rejuvenates slackening skin areas that have lost some elasticity and where collagen production has slowed down. Working from the inside out, the product cushions the area raising it up and adding volume. It spreads out in the skin and draws water to the area. Clients are advised to use sun protection.

The Treatment:

A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin beforehand so the patient is painfree. There is no need for pretesting. The product is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with an extra fine needle. The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. There will probably be a little swelling( which disappears within 24 hours) and sometimes some very minor bruising. The patient is very comfortable throughout the procedure. The patient initially receives a course of 3 sessions, one every 4 weeks, which achives the required result. After this initial course they may have a treatment every 4 months to maintain the desired look.

Results start becoming apparent from 2 weeks after the first treatment. The full effect of the treatment will not be achived until after the third of the initial course.

SCULPTRA

Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that reduces lines, wrinkles and folds and replaces the fullness of the face that has been lost by the ageing process. Sculptra works by stimulating your own facial collagen production to replenish your skin, providing a natural looking result. It works gradually to restore what has been lost and once your treatment is complete, the results can last for more than 3 years.

Sculptra is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss, providing a gradual increase in skin thickness.

Are The Results From Sculptra Immediate?

At your first treatment it may appear that Sculptra works immediately because of the swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute the Sculptra. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra takes time to work, results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks. Generally 2-3 treatments may be necessary to obtain the required results.

During my Sculptra treatments my clients have minimal discomfort.

PERMANENT MAKE UP

The eyes can be opened by the addition of a soft eyeliner, and Permanent Make Up is an excellent way of enhancing the shape and colour of your lips.

After just one procedure you can have stunning smudge free make-up that will last for several years.

Permanent Make Up is the art of implanting coloured pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. The procedure is completely safe and effective. Over a 10 day period the colour will gradually fade as it is naturally exfoliated from the skin, leaving the true colour embedded in the dermal layer of the skin. You will need to return in 4-6 weeks for a review during which the colour may be balanced if necessary.

The Treatment:

You will need to allow one and a half hours for 1 procedure and 3 hours if you intend to have "full face" (3 procedures).

We use topical anaesthetics to keep discomfort to a minimum. Creams and gels are applied to the area before and during the procedure to assure you of the most comfortable experience possible.

Post Procedures:

• Area around eyes can swell a little following eyeliner procedure. You’ll look as if you’ve had a good cry for a few hours following eyeliner.
• Eyebrow procedures have little swelling.
• Lip liner and blush can cause temporary swelling. If you have a history of cold sores your doctor needs to prescribe anti-viral medication before a lip treatment.

How Long Does Permanent Make-Up Last?

Permanent Make-Up is long lasting. It will need to be freshened up every 18-24 months. The darker colours, such as black, last longer in the skin. Lighter delicate colours are more vulnerable to the sun, swimming and breakdown by the body.

SCLEROTHERAPY

Spider or thread veins are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. They are commonly seen in adults, both men and women.

I treat thread veins on the legs with Sclerotherapy. This involves injecting a sclerosing solution with a tiny needle into the lumen of the thread vein to destroy it. The thread vein gradually fades.Thread veins are caused by a number of different factors, either alone or in combination, including:

• Heredity
• Hormonal changes including pregnancy, oral contraceptive pill, hormone replacement therapy
• Significant weight gain
• Increase in localized pressure e.g. standing on your feet all day long, or weight bearing sports
• Photo damaged skin
• Steroid induced

Sclerotherapy can enhance the appearance of thread veins but it's unrealistic to believe that every vein will disappear completely as a result of treatment. After each treatment the veins will appear lighter. Generally 4 treatments are required 1 every 4 weeks for optimal results.

The Treatment:

The treatment treats only the veins that are currently visible. It does not prevent new thread veins from surfacing in the future.

This treatment is well tolerated and relatively painless. It does not require anaesthesia.

FACIAL PEELS

After a peel the skin is more sensitive to the sun and a sun protection has to be worn at all times.

Peels are very effective for skin rejuvenation. They restore elasticity and colour balance, reduce age spots, reduce pore size, improve skin texture and

diminish fine lines and wrinkles.

There are several types of peels. Each uses a different solution to create the effect. I use the Skin Tech Range of peels and daily skin care products. They are highly effective, reliable and easy to use. I use Skin Tech daily creams to optimize peeling results whilst reducing secondary effects to a minimum.

EASY PHYTIC SOLUTION:

I use Phytic Solution as a superficial peel. This is composed of a blend of pure acids with controlled gradual release. This peel is particularly recommended for acne and the prevention of photo-aging. Social activities do not need to be postponed with this peel.

The Result:

Dermal stimulation without desquamation.

Clients get a fresh glow on their skin following this treatment.

EASY TCA PEEL:

I use Easy TCA as a medium peel. It is considered to be the safest, most effective and easiest peeling with TCA. No pre-peel preparation is required. There is no need for social activities to be postponed. It is recommended for skin regeneration, photo-aging, acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma, choasma, keratoses, fine lines and smokers' skin.

A course of treatments are recommended. One treatment is preformed once a week for 4 weeks – then for 6 weeks apply the appropriate Skin Tech cream as a daily cream.

4 peels + 6 weeks of daily care = 1 regeneration cycle that can be repeated up to 3 times.

The Result:

There is usually redness prior to this treatment. This is followed by scaling that ends within 3 – 7 days. It is vital to apply sun protection prior to peel because the new skin is fragile.

The results are dramatic! Fresh rejuvenated younger looking skin!
